Carlos Garcia
Carlos José Rasteiro Garcia was born in Santarém on December 13, 1970.
He started music lessons and learning classical guitar in 1976.
Between 1979 and 1985 he was a member of the Scalabitana typical orchestra and attended the music conservatory in Santarém.
In 1986 he began playing fado and from 1990 onwards he began playing in fado houses in Lisbon, such as Clube de Fado, Bacalhau de molho, Café luso, Faia, Sr. Vinho, where he played with Carlos Velez, Carlos Macedo, José Fontes Rocha, Ricardo Rocha, Manuel Martins, Francisco Peres, and accompanied fado singers such as Maria da Fé, Maria da Nazaré, Ada de Castro, Camané, Filipe Duarte, Lenita Gentil, Anita Guerreiro.
In 1995 he became a member of Nuno da Câmara Pereira's working group, with whom he performed many shows, including the Mediterranean music festival on the island of Malta and the concert celebrating 20 years of his career at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon (with the participation of Rao Kyao, Vitorino, Carlos Azevedo, Custodio Castelo, Fernando Silva and Fernando Maia).
In 1997 he was invited to be part of the musical project of the singer MISIA, where he did numerous tours, participating in the Montreux jazz festival; the “port wine concert” in Brazil with Mísia and Maria Bethânia, in Rio de Janeiro at the emblematic concert hall “Canecão”; and in São Paulo at the “Tom Brasil” hall, with the musicians, Marino de Freitas, Manuel Rocha, Ricardo Dias and Paulo Soares.
Between 1999 and 2003 he played with the fado singer Mafalda Arnauth, on many tours, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Italy and in Portugal in the presentation of the CD “Encantamento” at the ruins of Carmo and at the São Luís theater.
Alongside this project, Carlos Garcia continued to occasionally accompany some shows with other artists such as Mariza, Carlos do Carmo, Ana Moura, among others, and was a resident member of the “Fado Wednesdays” at the Estoril Casino with the fado singer Carlos Zel, having also performed at the fado galas in the Preto e Prata hall of the Estoril Casino, where he accompanied Fáfá de Belém, João Ferreira Rosa, Vicente da Câmara, Argentina Santos, Maria da Fé, Beatriz da Conceição, Ana Sofia Varela, Ana Moura, António Pinto Basto, Rodrigo, Aldina Duarte, Maria Valejo.
Of the many recordings he has made, those by the following artists stand out: Carlos Zel, Dulce Pontes, the group “Entre Vozes”, Pedro Moutinho, António Zambujo, Teresa Tapadas, Nuno da Câmara Pereira, Carlos Macedo, among others.
Between 2006 and 2013 he was part of several musical projects with guitarist Custódio Castelo, with whom he recorded several CDs with fado singers and instrumentals such as the CD “in ventus”, having also toured several times, with this record (trio Custodio Castelo, Carlos Menezes and Carlos Garcia), through Europe, Mexico, Canada, in “World Music” festivals, in Portugal at “Casa da Música” in Porto and “CCB” in Lisbon.
Between 2010 and 2012 he was a teacher at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco, ”ESART”, where he was responsible for the fado accompaniment guitar, integrated in the degree in Portuguese guitar.
In 2011, he participated in the gala, FADO HERITAGE OF HUMANITY, broadcast live by RTP, where the following were on stage at the coliseum of recreations: Aldina Duarte, Ana Moura, António Zambujo, Carlos do Carmo, Carminho, Celeste Rodrigues, Cristina Branco, João Braga, Marco Rodrigues, Maria da Fé, Pedro Moutinho, Ricardo Ribeiro; musicians: Ângelo Freire, CARLOS GARCIA, Carlos Menezes, Custodio Castelo, Diogo Clemente, Joel Pina and Marino de Freitas.
