Soraia Cardoso is a 23-year-old girl from the small village of Alcouce, municipality of Condeixa-a-Nova, district of Coimbra. She has a degree in Social Gerontology, from the Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra, from the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, having done her curricular internship at the ‘Casa do Artista’, Residential Structure for Elderly People related to the artistic world (Carnide, Lisbon). From an early age she began to sing at school events and at mass, always emphasizing her taste for the Portuguese language. In 2014, she participated in a music competition in her county, entitled “A Voz de Condeixa”, in which she reached the final. From there, her fate was set…
She started in singing lessons and was invited to be a member of an amateur fado group. Her passion for fado started from then on. The following year, at the age of 16, she competed again and achieved, this time, the 1st place singing Portuguese national music. In 2018, she was a contestant on the television talent show “The Voice Portugal”, having reached an honorable 3rd place. Soraia is the first fado singer to take fado further in that kind of TV program.
Since then, she has sung a little all over the country, and has already taken her first steps through the fado districts in Lisbon. She has participated in events such as the Santa Casa Alfama Fado Festival and the 33rd anniversary of Rádio Festival at Coliseu do Porto. Soraia Cardoso was also honored by A Voz do Operário, at its 3rd Fado gala, with the Female Revelation Award. Her timbre and the emotion she puts in every word leave no one indifferent. This young woman, with a voice and soul filled with fado, is a promise of the new generation of fado singers.
